Latin American music, it's not just about the music itself, but also about the people and the culture. Latin American influences can be heard in all genres of music today, and some of the biggest global superstars have made their breakthrough in the industry. To find out what all the hype is about, we take a look at the most popular Latin American music genres. Salsa itself was born in 1960, when Puerto Ricans living in New York combined the music they had heard from American jazz and dance with the sounds of Latin America, especially Mexico and Central America. Different sounds and styles have been mixed together to create new genres and fusions that are constantly evolving while paying tribute to their original roots. This has led to a new genre, which is best known for its influence on the world music scene and which today forms the basis for a number of popular genres such as salsa, reggae, hip-hop and more.

For years, salsa music has been a popular genre of music, loved by millions all over the world.
